The Big Challenge

Some of you are taking part on The Big Challenge Contest. It will be held on May 14th after the first break.

The test will include some questions regarding sociocultural aspects of English speaking countries. From now on, I will publish some entries to help you with these cultural topics.

To begin with, there is a very interesting video by C. G. P. Grey, explaining the difference between the United Kingdom, Great Britain and England. As you will see, he speaks very quickly but, if you pay attention to the pictures, I'm sure you will understand the main ideas. Don't panic and don't try to understand every single word.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

This term we are reading The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. We will divide the book into three parts and you will have to do an exam on each of these three parts:

• Chapters 1-4: April 24th. 
• Chapters 5-8: May 8th.
• Final exam: May 22nd.

The first two exams will focus on vocabulary and short questions. In the final exam you will have to complete a short test and answer two of the following questions:

• Have you ever felt very different from other people in your family or in your group of friends? 
• In your opinion, is Roger Button a good father to Benjamin? Explain your answer. 
• Would you like to live your life like Benjamin Button, moving in age from old to young? Give some advantages and some disadvantages to this situation. 
• Describe Benjamin's actions after he read the letter from the army to Brigadier-General Benjamin Button. 
• Think of a different ending for the story.
